The 1926 Heritage Hotel is located at Burmah Road, Penang. (N5°25.437' E100°19.234')
On the 3rd day of Chinese New Year (28th JAN 2009, our fourth day in Penang), we decided to stay one night at Penang to save time avoid traveling from Butterworth because Lau came for 2 days 1 night holiday with his family...and we became their tour guide.
We are so fortunate to find this hotel which is not too far from the Georgetown (The Capital of Penang).
We did our room booking from the Booking.com, and the rate was MYR150.00 per day for Deluxe room with 2 breakfast.
But when we check-in to the Hotel, I'm surprised that the Walk-in rate only MYR126.00! Which is much cheaper than the 'Special Internet Booking Rate'! Luckily, there was another MYR40.00 surcharge for Holiday Peak Season, so it come to MYR166.00. I think we save a little....haha!
After the Lobby area, we need to walk to the back of the main building, which is where all the room located. I'm like this small garden before the room block...
There are only 2 storey antique building and with the total of 96 rooms. Our room was at the first floor.
I found out the room was clean enough and the 1.5 horse powerful Air-Conditional was cold enough for the room. It's spacious enough for us...
Every deluxe room has a private balcony. I love the antique design of the doors and windows!
Beside this, the hotel also has a swimming pool located at the right behind the room block. The Jacuzzi is at the corner of the big pool. I'm impressed!
Hotel Guest parking is located at the both side of the room block.
I really love this antique design of the Hotel.
Once home to British colonial officers and local administrators, this wonderful 1920’s property has been completely refurbished to offer a comfortable, modern hotel, whilst maintaining most of its Anglo-Malay architectural essence.
Typical of the colonial era, it is uniquely dressed with beautiful Victorian windows and private balconies, which contribute to a memorable atmosphere and luxurious comfort and charm. Around the hotel you will find little lanes with rustic cafès where you can have a cuppa (or three) and some local fare.
Located in the heart of Penang, this heritage building is strategically located to all major shopping centres, tourist sites, the financial district and corporate towers. The hotel is also very near Georgetown City and 15 kilometres from the Penang International Airport. (Source from Booking.com)
The Breakfast was serve at the small coffee house at the right of the Hotel Lobby.
My buffet breakfast on the next morning. Just wondering that the coupon stated 'American Breakfast'?! Maybe we woke up too late! :)
Overall, the charges of the hotel room is justified with the environment. I will strongly recommend my friend to this hotel if the room is available.

Be carefull when booking online. It can be higher then normal work in rate, the booking engine go to make money also. That so call surcharge may be a "protection" for the booking engine. I usually do not trust booking website unless I can pay directly with the hotel....... That is one sign the room rates are not additionally given a higher mark up then the usual agent rate
ReplyDeleteNice hotel. Consider staying here next time. Usually I stayed in Sunway Hotel when visiting Penang
ReplyDeletethe hotel looks awesome. ive stayed here once. but then i remembered it closed down for a while. good to know its back! :)
ReplyDelete@Snapshots,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit.
You are absolutely right! It will cost more if you are booking online...it's just because of the fees they need to pay to the agent.
Cheers!
@Borneo,
I did call up Sunway Hotel in Penang, too bad it's fully booked during that season.
Anyway, this hotel was not bad and also the rate was not sky high!
Thanks.
@Q,
I heard they just completed the renovation...That's why mostly look like new to us...:)
I will stay here again if there is chances....
This looks like a very charming hotel. May consider staying there next time I go Penang! : )
ReplyDeleteI was feeling so emo when I read this post coz I used to live in the govt quarters on the opposite side of that hotel. I miss those childhood years and will stay in that hotel in future.

@Twilight Zone,
Actually, I'm looking for my childhood shadow and footstep in this trip to Penang. It's kind of feeling when you see something which bring back all the fond memories!
