E Pin Bak Kut Teh 一品滋扑肉骨茶 at Taman Bukit Indah, Skudai - Johor Bahru.

E Pin Bak Kut Teh 一品滋扑肉骨茶 (N1.47984 E103.66360) is located along the short street of Jalan Indah 16/4, Taman Bukit indah. The stall is sharing same area with Min Zi Seafood Restaurant which operating in the evening, and the Bak Kut Teh stall taking over in the day time.
This is the 'hidden gem' that discovered by us during the food hunting session...

E Pin Bak Kut Teh 一品滋扑肉骨茶 at Tmn Bukit Indah

The place was simple and typically look like a Chinese style kopitiam, but well ventilated. The owner of the stall - Mr Kenny Wang is a nice friendly person. He told us that he use better quality pork and ingredients for his own creation of Bak Kut Teh, and strongly emphasized there will be without MSG serving in his Bak Kut Teh. What Mr Kenny believe that as long as he concern about his food quality and taste, it will bring more regular customers to his stall...anyway, I think it's absolutely correct!

Our order :-
*  Claypot soup pork ribs Bak Kut Teh - 排骨肉骨茶
*  Claypot dry pork knuckles Bak Kut Teh - 猪脚干肉骨茶

Claypot soup pork ribs Bak Kut Teh - 排骨肉骨茶

The pork ribs was well cooked with melting tenderness yet still had sufficient firmness for a bouncy bite. The dark broth with rich herbal and spices taste together with some slight saltiness, and it goes great on rice! The herbal broth taste uniquely special which hardly find a replacement version in local Johor Bahru food market. We like it very much!

 photo IMG_9536_zps4e1fcdb2.jpg
Claypot dry pork knuckles Bak Kut Teh - 猪脚干肉骨茶

The spongy pork knuckles was Aromatic and Delicious! The knuckles were well cooked to the perfect timing where easily fall off with a gender bite! The taste of the gravy was excellent! This was the 'First' time we taste A Delicious Dry type Bak Kut Teh within Johor Bahru area.
4 of us categorized it's A MUST TRY DISH in this Bak Kut Teh stall. Well, you can have few choices to choose any part of the pork and cook with the dry type (even soup type), said by Mr Kenny.

They do serve other dishes like salted vegetables, pork tribes, mutton soup and others...

To all Bak Kut Teh lover, have you try it before? If not, do visit the stall during day time from 8am - 2.30pm (accept Monday), you have to try at least once of Kenny's own version Bak Kut Teh.

Sini Ada Bak Kut Teh (这里有肉骨茶) at Taman Austin Perdana, Johor Bahru

Sini Ada Bak Kut Teh / The Bak Kut Teh is Here (这里有肉骨茶) (N1.54523 E103.78964) became a popular spot before the restaurant start operation, all because of the Unique name! The restaurant is located at the entrance of Taman Mount Austin (Jalan Mutiara Emas 9/3). Everyone was curious about it before they start their business included me and my friends...

Photobucket

This Bak Kut Teh restaurant has a total different concept compare with others, it provide a better and clean environment for you and your family to enjoy the foods relax and comfortable. They even have a Air-Conditioning area which is also a Smoke Free area.
We chose to dined on the first floor...

Now the local Bal Kut Teh lovers have a choice to enjoy Bak Kut Teh in 2 type of environments, either you choose to dine in the traditional kopitiam environment or a better and clean environment like this but with the slightly higher price...

I was attracted by the latest technology of this tea pot refilling system. The water under the cabinet is boiling all time and you can refill your tea pot by just sit on the black knot. This is really convenience! This is the First Bak Kut Teh restaurant who implement the easy way to their customers.

Our ordered for the night :-
1)  Bak Kut Teh - spare ribs (排骨)
2)  Streaky pork with fat (五花肉)
3)  Stewed pork with mixture of meat and others (卤三味)
4)  Braised Chicken feet (焖鸡脚)
5)  Salted vegetables
6)  Tau-pok (Bean curd)

Photobucket
Bak Kut Teh - spare ribs (排骨)

Photobucket
It had a different Bak Kut Teh flavor from others in Johor Bahru, herbal taste was not as rich as those famous Bak Kut Teh...No MSG, the ribs were tender and drop from the bone easily. It was Special and very much base on individual taste bud...

Photobucket
The Streaky pork (五花肉)

The streaky pork with fat had the same broth as the spare ribs, it was soft and tender.

Photobucket
Stewed pork - 卤三味

This stewed pork was Delicious! The bowl of claypot served with the streaky pork with fat, skins and nerves which is not commonly available in Johor Bahru. It a Must try dish! Recommended!

Photobucket
Braised chicken feets - 焖鸡脚

The chicken feet was braised perfectly! Springy and nice! According to my wife, beacuse I don't take chicken feet...:)

Others dishes were just average, we were satisfied with the dinner!
Beside the dishes we had above, the do serve Pork Tribes (猪肚)and Yellow rice wine chicken (黄酒鸡).

Some of my friends told me that this restaurant price is rather higher comparing with other, I agree. But it provide a total different environment comparing from the traditional type, I'm willing to pay a little bit more... As I mentioned above, you have choices to choose to dine in a Typical Chinese kopitiam or Air-Conditional restauarant environment, I believe most of the 'families' will choose 这里有肉骨茶 just because it has a Smoke Free session, don't mind paying slightly higer for a 'Healthy Environment'. At least my family like it!
Well, the choice is yours...

The each claypot portion served above (for the 3 serves) was for 2 persons, and the price is between RM20-RM22. It's reasonable especially in this better environment.

According to the owner (Mr Andrew Chuah), the restaurant offering a package which include a bowl of Claypot Bak Kut Teh, salted vege, tau-pok and a glass of drink for RM15.00 per person. You can choose to dine in the well ventilated area or Air-Conditioning area...what do you think?! :)

Do try out if you happen to be around the area, you might like it!

*  Everyone taste bud is different...

THE RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED SINCE APRIL 2013.

The Famous Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh (强记肉骨茶) at Kota Tinggi, Johor.

Heard about this Famous Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh (强记肉骨茶) (N1.82772 E103.95845) many years ago, because of the business hour is too short...I got to drag it till now only had the chance to enjoy it!

Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh at Kota Tinggi, Johor.

Kiang Kee Bak Kut Teh is located along the main road from Kota Tinggi town to Mersing. It's just about 1.6KM before the junction to Sedili Besar. It's a wooden restaurant with a Attap (Nypa Palm) roof, like most of the wooden house back on the 60s with the reminiscent setting...

The dining area...

Despite the hot weather, the environment was quite cooling maybe because of the attap roof...:)

We were there about 10.30am, and the restaurant was packed with customers which patronize with locals and Singaporeans! That's the reason the pork ribs will finish normally almost noon time...
I do noticed most of the Nice Bak Kut Teh is cook by charcoal and same as this restaurant...

All claypots synchonize at same times...

The frame of charcoal

There had many staffs working in the restaurant, the foods served on table fast! Don't worry!

Less than 15 minutes, our Bak Kut Teh served...

As usual, we had a the Bak Kut Teh for 1 person with salted vege, yau-char-kuai (Chinese fritter) and a bowl of pork tripes soup (my favorite)!

The claypot Bak Kut Teh from Kiang Kee served with still bubbling broth

Satled vege

Yau-char-kuai

Pork tripes soup

The pork ribs were traditionally cooked to melting tenderness with my favorite strong herbal savory soup! It's difficult to taste this type of soup nowadays! The tripes was just nice with the pepper broth, soft, with chewy texture! It was one Delicate tripes I ever had! The others just normal...

We were satisfied with the meal especially with the reasonable price! Worth the drive from JB to Kota Tinggi 'just' for the Bak Kut Teh!
I will defintely come back again for the braised pork knuckles and others!

If you are a Bak Kut Teh lover, you cannot miss this one! Do drop by!

Soon Chiang Bak Kut Teh at Taman Maju Jaya, Johor Bahru.

Soon Chiang Bak Kut Teh (顺江肉骨茶) (N1 28.857 E103 46.015) is located along Jalan Maju of Taman Maju Jaya, Johor Bahru. This is one of the Klang's style Bak Kut Teh at Johor Bahru which is serve with dark herbal soup.

As usual, we ordered the Pork Ribs for everyone, Pork Belly, salted vege and bean curd to share...

Pork ribs - Soon Chiang Bak Kut Teh

Pork belly - (my favorite!)

Sated vege

Bean curd

We were satisfied with the meals over here! The Pork Ribs were tender and not too soft like those overcooked. The Pork Belly's pepper soup was just nice! Not too spicy. The salted vege and bean curd (side dish) were average.
We used to dine here those day but sometimes the quality is not consistent. We will be back again and hopefully the quality will be the same. :)

The Damage : MYR68.00 for 4 adults and 2 children included a pot of Chinese Tea.

Rated : 4.5/5

The shop will be crowded during weekend morning, do visit it early. They open for morning till afternoon.

Tong Heng Bak Kut Teh at Pekan Nanas, Johor.

Tong Heng Bak Kut Teh (N1°30.438' E103°30.737') is located in one Chinese Coffee Shop name 'Yoong Hee' along the main road of Pekan Nanas, Johor. (Next to the Pekan Nenas Police Station)

This Bak Kut Teh was recommended by one of the fellows Blogger - Ben. We had our breakfast here before the Tanjung Piai (Piai Cape) trip.

According to Ben, we Have to reach the shop before 11am. Because it will be Finish after that! So we started our journey from Permas Jaya around 9am and it took about an hour to reach the shop.

The environment of the shop

The shop wasn't crowded at that time, but the Bak Kut Teh gonna finish soon! Wah! So we quickly placed our order...which was included everything for 2 persons.
They served our meal about 10 minutes! Hmm...that was fast!

The boss busy preparing the Bak Kut Teh

Well, I can say the taste was above average. The pork served was gentle enough and so as other intestine...I'm satisfied with it. Thanks Ben!

The Bak Kut Teh serve in claypot

This shop also serve very nice Homemade Barley. We order One bottle and share each other...The damage was RM18.00 included drinks (for 2 persons). Reasonable price for what we ordered.
Beside, the shop also selling Wanton Noodle. But I'm not sure whether is this similar with the Famous Pontian Wanton Noodle...

The Wanton Noodle stall

It's worth visit again! I'll drop by if I'm around this area...

Ah Soon Bak Kut Teh*, Johor Bahru

Ah Soon Bak Kut Teh (N1°29.323' E103°46.049') located at Jalan Keris 1 of Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bahru.

The restaurant has a poor environment, it makes you feel like having your Bak Kut Teh in the oven. But....it's crowded everyday especially lunch time!

Crowded and hot environment.

I visited this shop on one of the Saturday noon time and it's pack with peoples! The Bak Kut teh serve here is the Teow Chew Claypot style.

We ordered :-
1) Bak Kut Teh for 3 person
2) Yellow Rice Wine Claypot Chicken (small) (Signature dish)
3) Salty vege & tou-fu

Teow Chew Claypot Bak Kut Teh

Yellow Rice Wine Claypot Chicken

Tou-Fu

This is the place where I started to love Teow Chew Bak Kut Teh many years ago.....and the Yellow Rice Wine Chicken is one of the Best I ever taste within Johor Bahru. So far none of others come close to it!

The taste of the Bak Kut Teh maintain the same from my last visit (many years ago). I will recommend most of my friends who love Bak Kut Teh to try it at least once! The cooking method still use the traditional way which is 'Charcoal'.

Traditional Charcoal cooking

The damages was :- MYR48.00 for 4 adults & 1 child (include drinks)

Rated : 4.5/5 for the Bak Kut Teh, 4.9/5 for the Yellow Rice Wine Chicken.
Business hour : Morning till 3pm (Close on Monday)

Sze Hwa Bak Kut Teh at Kulai, Johor

The is the place where the Famous Sze Hwa Bak Kut Teh (N1°40.094' E103°35.225') started and now spread within Johor Bahru area.

You can find a few of the franchise like the Shi Hua at Taman Permas Jaya, Shi Hua at Rosmerah area of Taman Johor Jaya.

I wanted to try it long time ago, until today....I tasted the so called Original Sze Hwa Bak Kut Teh at Kulai. (There is another 'New Sze Hwa' at Kulai too, these two are brothers).

The shop was pack with peoples on my visit. It was a Saturday morning. The foods serve in less than 10 minutes after we ordered. That's fast!

Frankly, the porks the serve were much big portion than the Franchise at Permas Jaya, but not as soft as Permas Jaya Shi Hua Bak Kut Teh.

The intestine was good!

We called it "Spare Part" locally

Overall I'm satisfied with the meal. The damage was MYR27.00 (For 3 adults & 1 child)
It's Cheaper than other places!!

The Desa Tebrau Soong Huat Bak Kut Teh

Yellow Rice Wine Chicken

The Tou-Fu

Overall, the Yellow Rice Wine Chicken was GOOD & Tasty! You can feel the Yellow Rice Wine of every bite if the chicken. But the Bak Kut Teh was just average (The pork were not soft enough) same as others.
Total Damage : MYR55.00 (For 5 adults and one child)
